Collaboration and team work with a creative, open-minded client provided our team at SURF Architecture the opportunity to re-image the traditional “BC Box”. This ubiquitous single family house design populates our province and is based on a split level entry, with the main living spaces (kitchen, living room and principal bedrooms) on the upper level, with supporting family functions and spaces on the lower level.
Through a partially revised framing plan of the existing structure and an addition to the back of the home, the client’s program requirements were met while preserving previous enhancements. In order to provide a cost-effective solution for the additional area on a constrained site, the design did require Variance Board Review which was unanimously approved.
