As the primary entrance marker into the City by the Sea, the proposed gateway arch structure is intended to evoke imagery of a jumping fish, a kite board sail, the leaf of a fern, or the setting sun. These visual metaphors are a few images or memories that visitors and residents may envision when passing through the gateway when entering or leaving White Rock.
As a symbol of the city’s pride, the design is a clean, simple expression of geometric shapes that is both sculpture and structure, forming a welcoming gateway into the community. The two large steel arches emerge from the same point on each side of Johnston Road to minimize their footprint at grade, then splay outward to provide a generous canopy overhead.
