Granville Pumphouse
The pumphouse is located along the Vancouver downtown seawall below the Granville Street Bridge across from Grandville Island. This component of urban infrastructure is part of the Concord Pacific Development located along False Creek. Due to its prominent location, the City of Vancouver’s Planning Department was actively involved to ensure that the building and site plan would fit appropriately within the context of a very active, pedestrian realm.
The main structure of the building is constructed of a cast in place concrete which has been detailed to coordinate the forming system with the overall dimensions and openings of the facility. The concrete is juxtaposed with a stainless steel elliptical drum that envelopes a portion of the main structure. This volume extends beyond the parapet height of the main roof to function as a screening element for the rooftop mechanical and exhaust systems.
