Abbotsford Centre

The Abbotsford Centre is located adjacent to the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford BC. This 7000 seat multi-purpose facility functions as a spectator venue for many forms of family entertainment. The layout of the facility takes advantage of the natural terrain of the site such that the main entrance, located along the south side of the facility is at grade. This adjacency provides access directly to the main public concourse level which rings the full seating bowl. Within the bowl, all seats have an unencumbered view of the entire event floor; the full seating bowl provides an intimate and activated spectator experience. The suites level is located on the upper concourse and has 22 suites, 12 loge boxes and a VIP lounge with a view of Mount Baker.

The exterior of the building is clad in both natural and engineered materials. The use of polished aggregate masonry and wood cladding anchors the facility into the natural surrounding of the site, while the metal cladding and glazing systems accentuate the highly technical function and program requirements of the entertainment venue.

The main roof over the event floor is a long span structure supported on steel columns which also support the precast concrete seating bowl. From the exterior, the roof folds over the facility and forms the main overhang over the entry. The gentle roof form is inspired by the wing of the Trumpeter Swan in flight. The world’s largest waterfowl has a migratory route through Abbotsford and is well recognized by its vast 2 meter white wing span and graceful profile.
